About

me

Hello! Welcome to my media based installation portfolio page! My name is Aisha Harper. I'm 31 years old, and a grudaute student of the Expanded Animation program at the University of Southern California.

Since I am still a student, I using this site to document my progress as I am learning and growing as a creative in my field. I hope you enjoy!

Pleasant Memory was a cinema based instillation I created that was meant to simulalte what it would look like if one were to peer into another person's mind and look at their thoughts. The idea was to showcase that the memories view, were actually a facade hiding the pain that person was going through. Dreamcore and surrealism were my inspirations in creating this.

WOODPECKER

The Acorn Woodpecker installation was made in collaboration with the archetect students here at USC. At the begining of our spring semester, our class was informed that a class of architecture students were working on a project concerning the birds of Los Angeles and the threat that the exticntion of them poses to our ecosystem. For their project, they were tasked to create sculptures that emmulated the spirit of the species of bird they selected, as well an educational component that informed the community of their existance and their importance. As the animation/production students, we were tasked to help enhance and/or add to their work with our projection mapping.

My team studied the Acorn Woodpecker, and decided to create a structure of both a living and a dead tree that has been hollowed out by the woodpecker, and the significance this has on our ecosystem, as Acorn Woodpeckers are symbiotic creatures who have a lot of species counting on their existence. We decided to enhance the the many curves and concaves within the structure with light to give it more life and emotion. The audio which accompanied it evoked the environment that the Acorn Woodpeckers commonly reside in.

These videos were documented at the SCA gallery.

Original file I created to project onto the Acorn Woodpecker. (I did not do the sound design. )

Immersive Environment

For our final project, my classmates and I were tasked to simulate a "calming" immersive environment; something that incorporated all 4 senses. The project would be projected onto all 4 walls of our classroom.

My group decided that sweets would be ours. One classmate decided to bake fresh delicious cookies. While the other took it upon herself to create the simulation. Another did the sound design and helped with the music. I was in charage of all of the technical aspects of our projects, as well as some of the rendering to make sure everything went smoothly. It was a success!
